i got excepted to both college programs.
i like doing my own hair and makeup and think that i would have luck in finding a job in the field. however, i’ve always excelled in art and been creative. i don’t know what being a graphic designer is like, and if i would get bored being behind a computer. i also don’t know if i have it in me to be a hairstylist because it isn’t something i have been doing all my life.
    i’m 18. i need to choose quickly.
i honestly cannot figure this out myself.

How are we, near the beginning of a new millennium, going through another “renaissance” in art and culture? Wh

I’m starting to look at colleges and pick a major and graphic and web design have really caught my eye. I consider myself creative and I enjoy creating and designing relatively everything. I have heard that there is more demand for web design, is this true? Also, do you have any suggestions for good colleges to take these courses? I’m a straight A student, and am in advanced math classes. should i continue with these classes or should i take some art classes in order to better my chances of getting into one of these colleges? Thank you for your time

I really wanted to go into art after high school, but I had no means to go to college at the time. I lost hope and tried to find a career that would make good money. I currently work in a restaurant, and really my time is limited and numbered these days. I don’t exactly have years to go to school, the instability of being a waitress is getting worse and worse. Anyway, it seems art was my only real strong suit, the one thing I didn’t struggle to understand. Design is my strongest area, I have an excellent eye for layout and design. I have a few tattoos, and the one thing I focus on is placement and the design. I used to be against the whole working for the man in a commercial setting as far as art goes, but I think I’m at a point where I wouldn’t mind it. But you don’t see all that many jobs for graphic design these days, so it seems. A lot of people tell me graphic design can fall under a number of jobs, not just “graphic designer”. Any opinions?

I would like to enter a course in graphic design in college but why they require from you portfolio…
Can u enter and study graphic design in a college without any experience and a portfolio?
The problem is that i really would like to pursue this career but have no experience at all but feel that i am creative and art orientated

I know it’s different for each college but I’m looking for a general description of what you do and what assignments are like.
    More detail=better chance of 10 points :)

Ok I have finally built my photoshop skills to the point where I can basically do anything, but I don’t know how to get out there.

Not exactly typography, not using words to create images, just words surrounding the image or used as a background.

I’ve just finished my first year at uni doing Graphics, which I passed (UK).
I’ve been told I need to experiment, observe and analyse other designers and become more sophisticated with techniques such as grid systems and the mix and layout of typography and layout and printing.
This seems so broad! Where do I begin? Any links or books?
    Thanks

I’m a sophmore in highschool and I am very interested in computer/graphic arts such as graphic design, typography, layout design, packaging, logos, photoshop, etc. Currently i have an HP laptop which is about 5 years old. What type of computer would u reccomend me getting if i was going to practice graphic art? Also, what type of programs, besides photoshop, would be the best to get? Any other comments or tips would be helpful. Thankss!!

I’m planning to study how to layout and design books, magazines, bookazines, or any publication. Can you suggest books and e-books on this topic? Google can’t seem to help me.
