As you can see, most of them have a newsletter signup form and a description of what the website, service or product will be. My 2 favorites have to be Love Freelancing, because they’re using Twitter instead of a newsletter signup form and the design is beautiful, and Remindness because of the awesome tagline (I am sure to remember it) 🙂

World War I is a conflict that has forever scarred the pages of history. What caused this great atrocity? How could this type of event ever come into existence? Every war has many complicated causes, but it often has what historians call a “trigger” that sets it off. Many experts agree that the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand was this “trigger”. However, the origin of World War I can not be simply directed toward a single event or even to a specific country. Many complex factors are to blame, including: (1) alliances systems ;( 2) militarism ;( 3) nationalism; and (4) imperialism.
The greatest single cause of World War I was the alliance system which developed after the Franco-Prussian War. It slowly separated Europe into two aggressive groups of powers who were increasingly suspicious of one another. The members of each group also felt bound to support each other, even in matters where they had no direct interest in. If they failed to do so, it would have weakened the unity of the group. For example, Germany often felt forced to back up Austria-Hungary with their Balkan policies. If they failed to back up Austria-Hungary, Germany would undoubtedly lose their only thoroughly dependable ally. Likewise, though France had no interests in the Balkans, they felt bound to back up Russia, because if they didn’t the existence of the Dual Alliance would have been threatened, and the French safety from a German attack would have been lost. Similarly, England was convinced it must support France and Russia in order to protect the solidarity of the Triple Entente as a check to the Triple Alliance. With countries forming alliances with one another to protect themselves from other countries, nobody seemed to fear war. Though there were many nations that played a role in this war, the major players were: Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy (forming the Triple Alliance) and Great Britain, Russia, and France (forming the Triple Entente). In fact, the beginning of the war can be attributed to the solidarity and prestige of these two groups of powers.
A second main cause of the war was militarism. Militarism can be broken down in to two groups. First, is the system of creating a great number of established armies and navies. Second, is the officers that strategize tactics and control those armies and navies.
This system of having a large male dominated population that would bear arms began with Napoleon during the Revolution. It was then later developed by the Prussians in the War of Liberation. From here, this organized fighting band of brother’s concept acquired many victories in battles to come. It soon came to be esteemed and imitated in the rest of Europe. From the Franco-Prussian War onwards the military and naval organizations of all the Great Powers tended to grow larger and larger. Armaments were supposed to be for defense and for the interests of peace. They were supposed to produce a sense of security for the people and its government. Instead, what they really created was a universal suspicion, fear and hatred between nations. If one county increased its army size, or built new battleships, its neighbors became fearful and constructed their own in order to keep up. For example, Kaiser William II of Germany was jealous of Britain for having a stronger and bigger army than his. He thefore, increased the German navy and built several warships. In response, Britain increased it’s navy and began building more ships. This ignited the race for creating bigger, and better warships and navies. This can be seen clearly during and after the Balkan Wars of 1912-1913. This competition in armaments went on in a vicious circle. For example, Germany and Austria, not sure of Italy’s loyalty, believed they must increase their armaments to assure their own safety. Similarly, France recommended Russia to increase their army and loaned them a billion francs so they could build a strategic railway against Germany. With armies enhanced and expanded, it did not only give each individual country their own security, but it also strengthened the alliance it belonged to. This time period forever changed the view and technology of warfare weapons.
Militarism also included the governing military and naval officers who created certain scenarios and directed their men to perform those objectives. These officers in every country created attacks, defensives, and revisions of the most complete plans for mobilization and attack to suit all possible situations. During this time period many military officers believed that being on the offensive was having the advantage. This meant attacking the enemy before their mobilization was complete. It also meant that the economic damage, demoralizing political and psychological effects would be occurring on in the enemy’s county instead of their own. Therefore, in this political crisis, the military leaders would always quickly conclude that the war was “inevitable” and would use the
use their influence to convince the civilian authorities to agree to general mobilization as soon as possible in order to gain the advantage of the offensive. However, a general mobilization actually did make war inevitable. It was a procedure that was virtually impossible to stop once it had started. It is almost always at a crisis, when it is most difficult for people to keep their “heads clear and their hands free”. The military leaders used their influence to rush decisions for war.
Another way militarism was a cause for World War I was that fact that these military plans were created and discussed in absolute secrecy. Many times they were even unknown to the public, Parliament, and even the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The military leaders worked in complete privacy and the plans which they premeditated would bring victory, regardless of the political repercussions which they imposed on the civilian leaders. Thus, when war developed in to something unavoidable, it was a huge bur
burden on the civilians to agree to the plans the military arranged and premeditated in private. This way of thinking was similar in other officers in all the other countries. Some officers even believed in preventive war. This meant to wage a war upon another county while they were still weak in order to prevent them from later growing stronger.
It was claimed that “Germany actually wanted war in 1914 in order to have a retribution with Slavdom prior to Russia completed their “Great Program” of military reorganization in 1916”.
“M. Poincaré and his associates are alleged to have wanted war in 1914 before Germany grew any stronger by reason of her rapidly increasing population, wealth, and naval force, and also before French Socialists, revolting against the burden of French military expenditure, should repeal the recently voted three-year term of service.” Due to these same reasons, Russian militarist are said to have wanted war sooner rather than later. It is also said that Englan
England would have been happy to have the opportunity to defeat the expanding German navy before it would have became a menace to them. Furthermore Austria-Hungary felt that a conflict with Serbia was bound to come sooner or later. As Baron Conrad said, “the sooner the better”. The murder of the heir was eagerly seized upon as a good excuse to tread upon Serbia.
Nationalism is another cause of World War I. During the late nineteenth century, nationalism was a popular movement that quickly spread across Europe. A Nationalist is someone that loves their own county but hates everybody else’s, and believe that their own countries needs must be meet before other nations. This belief that one’s own country was better than others undoubtedly contributed not only to the beginning, but the extension of the war in Europe.
Imperialism is another great underlying cause of World War I. Much like nationalism it is where a country wanted to be bigger, better, and stronger. Imperialism is when a c
country increases their own power and wealth by adding in other territories and controlling their natural resources. It was inspired by the need for control of the raw materials for political, economic power and dominance in world markets. Between 1898 and 1914, the economic rivalry in Africa and Asia regarding the countries Germany, Great Britain, and France almost foretold the outbreak of the war. Countries all over Europe were arguing and fighting over territory, and claiming what territory should be whose. This increasing competition for obtaining greater empires lead to an increase in confrontation that helped drive Europe to a war.
In conclusion, no one country or event could be blamed for the outbreak of World War I. Each county had political and military leaders that executed certain things, which led to the mobilization and declarations of war. Many countries also failed to do certain things which might have prevented war, and in this sense, all countries in one way of anothe
another were responsible for this great atrocity. Though most try to pin the origin of the war on the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, there are many complicated factors that contributed to the war which include: (1) alliances systems ;( 2) militarism ;( 3) nationalism; and (4) imperialism. Although the immediate trigger of World War I was the assassination, the war would never have erupted without the pre-war tension buildup. The events before, during, and after this war have forever changed how the society will think, plan, build, act, and what they say to their neighboring countries.

    Hey all 🙂

I have a forum website that I started with a friend, we’re about to buy a domain name. We started the idea because we are on forum sites a lot, but we wanted to make one for people our age [a teen site].
    So we created http://s4.zetaboards.com/ChatterCorner/index/
    [Future– chattercorner.com, domain coming soon]

I feel we have a good setup, we’re pretty experienced in forums [as my friend is an admin on another website & I have been a member of forum boards for 4 years now] and I know we can handle it. But we’re having some issues advertising & getting people to at least look at the site..

We’ve tried posting around, nothing really seems to me working :/
Is there any [cheap] ways to advertise our forum and get people to look at it more?
    Thanks!
    [I’m Fluffy on the site]

    …where to begin.
For about two or three years now ( I’m seventeen now ) my life has been what I had thought endless coincidences. Some times it happens much more frequently then other times, but it normally happens multiple times a day. And these aren’t really what I would think of as common coincidences, these are ones that only relate to what I have thought normally seconds before.

The most common thing that happens to me, is that I will think of saying something, like an exact sentence. And literally seconds later someone blurts out the exact thing, word for word. And this happens sometimes multiple times a day, but its more then just what people say. Sometimes I will think of a quote, or just anything in particular. And then what do you know.. the very next thing I see / read is almost identical. What I don’t understand is how it happens between people I don’t even know, or for example facebook pages that put up complete random facts or quotes. Like two days I read this quote ( actually a quote from pirates of the carribean 😛 said by captain jack ) that goes like this: The problem is not the problem. The problem is your attitude about the problem. Well the next day ( yesterday) the quote just popped into my head for no reason, I scroll down a tiny bit on facebook, and the very next thing i see, was just a black picture with bold letters on it saying: ITS ALL ABOUT ATTITUDE. Which is a direct link about what I just thought. Also other very strange things have happened when I have smoked marijuana ( I only smoke with my friends sometimes, not a big deal.. ) . Me and my friends have always said that weird stuff always happens when you are high. By the way marijuana does not alter your vision, or create any type of hallucination, well it never has for me. But when I have smoked weed the coincidences become more frequent. For example I was at my friends house the other day, standing on his deck / porch kind of thing. Well I was holding a lighter in my hand and I decided to look down for some strange reason, and I see one tiny hole in the whole in the floor. Very small, around the size of the base of a regular lighter, and thought to myself “fuck that would be funny if someone dropped there lighter down there”. Then my friend comes up to me and throws me another lighter, the one I was just holding slips as I go to catch the other one and boom. The one I was holding falls, and perfectly swishes down through the hole. Heres another weird one that happened about two weeks ago. Me and my friends were for some reason talking about how cool it would be to drop a glass of liquid, and for it to just land upside down on the ground with all of the liquid still inside. The next night we were drinking at my mates, and somehow I dropped my cup of beer. BOOM! lands upside with all of the liquid inside it. WTF

Okay well that’s the coincidences, now for the even weirder part. My dreams, first of all I read somewhere that people on average remember your dreams about 5 nights in a month. Well I have vivid dreams that I remember nearly every night. Which often come true or strongly relate to something that happens within hours of waking up. For example, last night. I had a very long and very vivid dream about fishing. I had a dream and I was fishing with my family ( cousins, uncles etc ) In this weird place I hadn’t been before. But we didn’t even catch anything. I ended up waking up from the dream and then just continued to dose in and out of it in the morning. And then I just stopped dreaming and went to sleep ( I often have my most vivid dreams when I’m dozing, kind of day dreaming ) . Well then a few hours later I get woken up by my uncles car arriving at my house, and guess what he had turned up to get.. he was borrowing our fishing rods. Okay that same uncle, who is married to my dads sister has kids. The are all boys, and he has a set of twins. In my family I have all brothers, and I myself am a twin. what are the odds of that.. But anyway, I was at a party two nights ago and my cousins ( the twins ) and there big brother was there. And somehow we got onto this topic, about dreams and it sounds cheesy but predicting the future. To my suprise, every single one of them also had a strong feeling about it aswell. In fact the eldest of them, ( he’s 21 ) had a very vivid dream the night before the Japanese tsunami about a giant tsunami hitting and killing thousands of people. THE NIGHT BEFORE, WTF. Then one of my brothers mates turns up, ( my brother is also 21 and this is his friend ). He hears the conversation, and brings up that my brother also believes in this kind of stuff. I had NO IDEA that it was going on with other people in my family, it was pretty exciting at the time and I ended up talking for ages with my cousins about it and every single one of them said they often predict things that happen in the near future.

aand i’m out of words 😛

My gym has closed and there isn’t another one near me for miles.

I’m not a keepfit fanatic, but I know I’ll quickly turn to blubber if I don’t do something.
I haven’t got room where I live for any large bits of equipment, so does anyone know of a good book or dvd that I can get some help from. Would something like Pilates or Yoga help?

I am somewhat on the chubby side. Really, the only problem area I have is my belly. What can I do to get rid of this unwanted fat? Any good diets and excercise routines?

  • Taylor2k November 19, 2013 at 3:45 am

I belong to a large chapter and I create and send a newsletter every month. Because of this I have the complete email distribution list, but end up having to email things for others in the group because *I* am the only one with this list. Is there a way I can send my email group list to others in my chapter? Is there a way to do this so that they don’t need to add each address individually? (There are over 100 addresses in this group). Thanks!!
